We decided to skip going to York this weekend because it was going to
be pretty rainy there, so we stayed in Cambridge, which was merely cool and
overcast, and visited art and science museums and took long walks around the
campuses and town.
But first, Mark hunted for the Cavendish Lab where Watson
and Crick made their discovery – being Sunday, we found the lab unavailable to
the public:
Undaunted, we continued on our walk to the Anthropology and Archeology
Museum which housed ancient artifacts collected from Cambridge itself as well
as artifacts brought back by adventurous Cambridge anthropologists and archeologists from the early part of
the 20th Century:
On Sunday, we visited the FitzWilliam Museum, which contains fine art by famous artists and impressionists as well as an unusually large display of porcelain and pottery from the Orient and England. There was so much to see regarding the pottery and porcelain that we’ve decided to return to the FitzWilliam later in the week to see the art collection.
On our way back to Clare College, we stopped at the bridge to observe the punters – those who try to punt on their own are generally pretty funny to watch because they will invariably get in their own way and in the way of the young men who are the professional punters on the Cam - you can tell which is which:
After a full weekend of visiting Cambridge museums and dinner at a local pub, we observe a full moon over Cambridge at the same bridge where we watched the punters earlier in the day:
The weekend is over!
